What began as sorrow in a family tragedy has transformed into passion and leadership to create innovate “clinical fluid management”. Future Path Medical (FPM) has brought patented disruptive innovation to medical devices for clinical fluid management beginning with urine.
Ty Bryant, whose son, Christopher, became a quadriplegic in 1997 due to a tragic diving accident while camping and swimming on the Little Miami River, experienced frustration with the existing methods of urine monitoring, Ty and Chris set out on a mission to solve the issues of fill rate and caregiver notification. Sadly, Christopher passed away in July of 2005 from a blood infection called sepsis which was a result of decubitus ulcers caused by a urine bag overflow in his hospital bed – a problem that may have been avoided with smarter technology.
Ty had lost his son and business partner, but gained an even greater resolve to forge ahead with better designed solutions that could enhance and potentially save lives in homes and hospitals.
Ty, with the scientific expertise of Dr. Tony Boiarski, filed three patents with one issued so far and they have completed a UroSense™ working break-through prototype, including a disposable low-cost sensor and a wireless alerting system. The patented technology is proving to be suitable for a larger market than quadriplegics and the severely handicapped care, so FPM has begun building the commercial UroSense™ family for the hospital ICU market in addition to the iBag™ for home care and rehab hospitals.
FPM continues to build an outstanding Advisory Council and management team. In 2006, Brian A. Gilbert and Del Mohler, CPA, joined the company as advisors. They realized the application of Ty and Tony’s efforts were suitable to a much larger market and that the heart of the company (quadriplegic and other handicapped care) would be best served by commercializing the UroSense™ product to the hospital ICU market, which could sustainably fund the effort, save lives, and improve the experience of all caregivers.
The new holding company now continues to raise capital, refine the original business plan, gain new members for the Advisory Council, perform market research, and embark on a new level of advanced features, product development and system design to drive growth and governance.
FPM continues to research the market as well as design new advanced features in wireless, sensors and software for the future. We have set out to be and then continue to be the affordable, best-in-class and trusted medical device company because of our centeredness on patients and their caregivers.
We have been issued U.S. Patent No. 7,739,907, additional patents pending as well as select off-shore filings dating back to 2006 that cover the sensors, systems, and unique features of our fluid management products and systems.
